We have two programs to provide resources for elementary, middle and high school students to participate in programs like Odyssey of the Mind. We also support two nursing scholarships at Rappahannock Community College for nursing students.
J.D. Briggs Fund
Established upon the retirement of Mr. Briggs as a Gloucester Elementary School principal by teachers at the elementary schools. Each year in May we hold an annual Golf Tournament to raise funds to provide additional resources to the schools that help to enrich and enhance school experiences.
The Community Engagement Coordinator or Guidance Counselor sends in the requests for the students/teachers. We have supported students for a week-long Math and Science Camp, sponsored Odyssey of the Mind Teams, Living Museum Field Trips, Photography Camp, after school sports through Department of Parks and Recreations, sponsorship to the Pumpkin patch as well as sponsoring students to Virginia All-State Chorus. We provided a lap-top for a student involved in a bad car accident for home schooling. Just a few ways we think outside the box.

Dr. Mel Shelby Nursing Scholarship
Established in 2018 to honor one of our board members who was an outstanding and well recognized physician in the field of Obstetrics/Gynecology. He was known for his kind and gentle bedside manner. Each spring and fall a nursing student at Rappahannock Community College is chosen to receive a $1000.00 scholarship for expenses. One of our scholarship recipients is now working full time at a local hospital.
In addition to providing temporary financial assistance for basic needs, we have a program for accepting donated vehicles. we accept donated vehicles in good condition, and if necessary, have minor repairs completed, provide a current safety inspection. We also assist with general vehicle repairs.
