The 'Forever Fund' - Charitable Support for Years to Come

In Honor of Founding Members
Sid and Marion Dixon

The Samaritan Group Endowment FundFriends and members of The Samaritan Group, Inc. established an endowment fund to honor two founding members, Sid and Marion Dixon of Gloucester Point. The fund provides a permanent source of financial support for the organization, supplementing annual fundraising efforts.

Gloucester residents since 1969, Marion was a Gloucester public school teacher and has volunteered with the Red Cross and The Salvation Army. As a NASA engineer, Sid worked as Chief of the Loads and Aeroelasticity Division.

Marion and Sid quickly became involved in the activities of the community after retirement in 1988. The Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Bethany United Methodist Church are also among the many organizations they have supported as volunteers.

In 1991 Marion and Sid Dixon were among a group of Gloucester citizens responding to a shortage of help for people in need. That group started the Samaritan Group, Inc. Originally the volunteers also did house repairs, but as the requests for repair projects increased, that group spun off and developed Gloucester Housing Partnership. The Samaritan Group has continued to focus on meeting emergency financial needs of Gloucester families.

Also recognizing the need for a "forever fund" to support the charitable aims of the group in years to come, supporters chose to establish the Endowment Fund with the Gloucester Community Foundation (GCF) to insure excellent professional management of the fund now and in the future.

Anyone can add to the fund at any time. Gifts can be made in honor or in memory of individuals. If you would like to support the endowment fund, please visit our Donation Page. When donating by mail, specify "Endowment Fund" in the memo line of your check. For further inquiries please visit our Contact Page.
