What We Do

The Samaritan Group to benefit from #GivingTuesday promotion.The Samaritan Group, Inc. (SGI) provides funds for families who are seeking temporary financial assistance. SGI has provided over $1,000,000 to more than 3,000 families since it was organized in 1991.

The Samaritan Group, Inc. was founded in 1991 by citizens and business leaders in Gloucester County. It is designed to provide financial assistance for families in temporary need. The people we serve must be a resident of Gloucester County and have been so for a minimum of 12 months. Assistance will only be granted once within a 12 month period.

Our income sources include fundraisers, churches, United Way designations, civic groups, individuals, memorials and The Daily Press Holiday Fund.

The group is run by a Board of Directors. The Board includes 18 volunteers and 2 caseworkers.

Our Work

The Samaritan Group supports these community organizations as an outreach to help our friends and neighbors throughout the Middle Peninsula region.

The JD Briggs Children's Fund

The Samaritan Group supports the community group The JD Briggs Children's Fund
Through the J.D. Briggs Children's Fund, SGI provides funds to support children in the Gloucester Public School System with needs such as clothing, medical and school supplies and field trip fees.

Three Rivers Healthy Families

On July 17, 2014 at the SGI Quarterly Meeting, Debbie Lancucki from Three Rivers Healthy Families talked to the board members about how TRHF are able to help county residents who are in need. On the left is Debbie Lancucki from TRHF and on the right is SGI Co-Chairman Nancy Dwoyer, who is presenting a check of $1,000 from its J.D. Briggs Fund.
These funds help support needy families whose children face health impairments due to pre-mature birth, and who lack adequate housing or educational or medical resources.

Vehicle Donation

The Samaritan Group receives funds from your generous car donation.
SGI also works to help those citizens who are in need of basic transportation. We partner with individuals who wish to donate automobiles in need of minor repair. Michael Harris, owner of Harris Garage, inspects and restores the vehicle to safe running condition. Safe and reliable transportation is a big need in Gloucester. The blue book value of donated vehicles is tax deductible.

Rural Infant Services Program

RISP provides support for children from birth to three years of age who may have developmental delays.
The Rural Infant Services Program (RISP) provides developmental and therapeutic services for infants and toddlers with special needs. RISP is a program of the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board and has been providing services to children and families since 1983 to reach children with special needs to help each child reach his or her full potential.

The Gloucester Housing Partnership

Helping low-income families inGloucester County in need of homerepair so they may live in a warm, dry,safe and accessible residence.
The Samaritan Group, Inc. founded the Gloucester Housing Partnership in 1991 for the purpose of housing repair. Funds from SGI are used to help defray material costs for low-income families in Gloucester County in need of home repairs that afford the homeowner a warm, safe, dry and accessible home.
